8-Shade Whitening in a Single Session
The situation
Our patient — a 32-year-old teacher — had been self-conscious about her teeth for years. Years of daily tea had left a visible yellow-brown stain she'd tried to cover with lipstick and closed-lip smiles. With her wedding approaching, she wanted a real solution, not just a temporary fix.
She came in cautious, expecting to be told the staining was too severe to treat.
Assessment
At consultation, Dr. Nazish assessed the staining as primarily extrinsic — ideal for laser whitening. The patient had no active cavities or gum disease, and sensitivity was mild. She was a strong candidate.
Starting shade: A3 (medium yellow-brown on the VITA scale).
Treatment
A single in-clinic laser whitening session was performed:
- Professional scaling to remove surface build-up first
- Gum barrier applied to protect soft tissue
- High-concentration whitening gel activated under LED light in three 15-minute cycles
- Post-treatment fluoride applied to reduce sensitivity
Total chair time: 75 minutes.
Results
End shade: B1 — one of the whitest natural shades on the scale. An 8-shade improvement in a single visit.
The patient reported mild sensitivity for 24 hours, which resolved completely. She followed the 48-hour colour-avoidance protocol (no tea, coffee, or coloured food).
Follow-up
Six months later at her regular scaling appointment, the shade had held at B1 with no significant regression — she had switched to drinking tea through a straw and was diligent about brushing before bed.
Results vary by individual. Starting shade, enamel thickness, and lifestyle habits all affect outcome. Book a whitening consultation on WhatsApp.
