The situation

Our patient had always disliked her smile. Her upper front teeth were slightly crowded, one lateral incisor was shorter than the other, and she had a chip on her central incisor from a childhood fall. She'd tried whitening — it helped but couldn't address the shape or alignment issues.

She wasn't ready for braces (she'd had them once before and didn't want to go through the process again), and her teeth were otherwise healthy.

Assessment

Dr. Nazish discussed three options: composite bonding (fastest, least durable), veneers (best aesthetic result, requires minimal tooth reduction), and orthodontics plus whitening (would take 12–18 months).

The patient chose six porcelain veneers on the upper front teeth — the ones visible when she smiled.

Treatment plan

Visit 1:

  • Teeth lightly prepared (a thin layer of enamel removed — less than 0.5mm)
  • Precise impressions taken and shade selected together with the patient
  • Temporary veneers placed while the lab fabricated the final restorations (10-day turnaround)

Visit 2:

  • Temporaries removed, fit and colour confirmed
  • Final veneers bonded with light-cured adhesive
  • Bite checked and adjusted

Total chair time: approximately 90 minutes per visit.

Results

The result was a natural, symmetrical smile — not the "piano keys" look patients fear. The veneers matched the patient's skin tone and the shade she wanted (slightly whiter than her natural teeth, but not dramatically so).

She described the process as "surprisingly easy" and wished she'd done it sooner.

Longevity

Porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years with proper care. The patient was advised to avoid biting hard objects with the front teeth (ice, nails), wear a night guard if she clenched, and attend regular six-monthly check-ups.
